Hi Everyone! Thank you so much for checking in with me this week!
I have been lucky enough to have had several people ask me to paint commissioned pieces for them over the last few weeks. I finished the first of three this week and it is signed, sealed and delivered to its’ new owner. My client asked if I could do a NYC street scene. I had a few inspiration photos, but ultimately the particulars were mine to bring to the canvas! I love that freedom and more importantly, trust! I chose the Empire State Building off in the distanced, clothed in morning steam from buildings, cars and trucks. A busy early morning NYC street. I started to sketch and paint in the perspective. I had a few hours and did accomplish a lot the first day. I added detail to the street, shading and reflections as well as details to the buildings in the foreground. The buildings in the background were shaded in, receding to show depth of the city streets. The lights came on in the buildings, the morning sky began to glow and the taxi cabs and cars began to come to life. The steam started to move through the air, hanging there capturing the mornings warm colors. I then added people walking to work; a true NYC street in early mornings! This piece was a lot of work, it unfolded before me, detail after detail. I truly got lost in this painting! Next up: North Carolina Thank you!
