Thank you for visiting today!

I have exciting news to share! I am going to be the featured artist at Dry City Brew Works in Wheaton IL for the month of August. I hope you can stop in to check out my work!

I started this lighthouse painting in art class and then completed it at home. It is obviously not abstract, but I have always loved lighthouses! Inspired by my travels to Maine and Newport RI, I worked from a photograph, but did add my own touch.

I started this piece with penciling in the horizon line, rock cliff and beach area. I filled the sky in with blues and whites that fade to a very light blue where the sky and ocean meet. The ocean was also filled in with a blend blues and greens. Gentle waves roll softly towards the beach. I detailed the lighthouse and the keeper’s house. The rocks and sand came next as well as the addition of the reflection in the tidepools. The finishing touches to this peaceful scene were completed!

I did live with this one for several days before signing. I thought I would put a sailboat in the distance, but that would be expected.

This piece is 11X14 and is Acrylic on board.

Thank you!
Gina

Hi Everyone! Thank you for checking back in with me this week! I really appreciate your support!

This summer has been very busy and spending 5 or 6 hours painting daily has been a little challenging. This floral still life was completed a couple of days ago, and many of you have remarked about the light and color reflections. I have not painted glass in a very long time and I chose to just dive in!

Impressionistic flowers, with their long stems, sit in a glass vase with water on a table. I wanted to leave the background details obscured and added the suggestion of a window above to the left was the source of light. The light shines through the glass as the red flowers with their stems and leaves, dance in the light, casting their shadows and reflections around the room.

I thoroughly enjoyed painting this one! More florals to come!!

Thank you for checking in with me today!
